For a third year the Plano Football program hosted a special event for a dad or family member to take part in putting the identifying stickers on their player’s helmet. This season, Plano Wildcat helmets will feature a special maroon sticker with the initials “JC” in memory of former Plano Football Head Coach and PISD Athletic Director John Clark. After affixing the various stickers on their helmets, the players and parents were treated to Little Rome pizza courtesy of the Wildcats Football Booster Club. Plano Football’s annual Media Day was held on the Plano Senior High campus the early morning of August 12. Starting at 7 a.m. Clark and Vines high schools’ 9th grade teams practiced while the JV & varsity teams had their official team & individual photos taken, then at 9 a.m. the JV and varsity players took the field for intra-team practice scrimmages. The Plano Wildcats football program held its first official practice for the 2023 season’s JV and varsity players on August 7 on Plano Senior High’s campus. To avoid the scorching heat of this summer the players and coaches took the field around 7:20 a.m., but the temp was already in the high 80’s. Despite the heat, the practice drills were very up-tempo with a lot of drill rotations. Everyone seemed to be able to keep up the pace – looks like summer conditioning was successful! The Plano Wildcats football team qualified for the 2022 Texas UIL 6A football playoffs, and for the bi-district round of play drew Prosper, top seed in its district. As top seed at the bi-district level Prosper earned the right to host the game, and on Nov. 11 (a decidedly cold and very windy night) the teams tested each other in the first two quarters, but as the game wore on Prosper’s offense found their way to score and won the match 28-3, ending the football season for the Wildcats. Coppell hosted the Plano Wildcats for the last 2022 regular season game on a Thursday night (changed from Friday due to forecast storms for that day, which came true) and used the home field advantage to the fullest for the win. The silver lining for Plano was learning that the team made the District 6-6A cut for the playoffs. Plano was the host for the 2022 varsity game between the two schools and weather was a major factor this year. First, the game didn’t start until 8:40p due to repeated safety delays due to lightning. Next, it had been raining almost all day before the game, and almost all the way through the game. Fumbles? Check. Slipped tackles? Check. Finally, the temp hovered around 53 degrees throughout, plus a wind chill. Marcus was able to take advantage of two slippery turnovers and ride the momentum changes to a win. The Flower Mound Jaguars hosted the Plano Wildcats for their 2022 varsity district game and the teams traded touchdowns throughout the game until late in the fourth quarter when a Plano turnover in the red zone gave the Jaguars a chance to break the cycle and take a lead that would hold to the end.
