The Rice Middle School 8th grade football “A” and “B” teams played their Murphy Middle School counterparts in Tom Kimbrough Stadium on Sept. 20.  Murphy swept the evening, but Rice’s “B” team played an impressive 4th quarter, clawing out of a big hole and almost pulling out a last minute victory. During a bye week for their varsity feeder teams, Clark and Williams High Schools 10th grade football teams donned varsity colors on Sept. 15 for their game at John Clark Stadium.  The scoreboard and clock didn’t function throughout the game, making it a little challenging to follow the pace and scoring, but Clark made the best of it, winning bragging rights for maroon and white. Plano football’s 2016 winning streak took a breather on Sept. 9 in Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium when the Rowlett Eagles extended their winning streak by capitalizing on Wildcat turnovers.  With both football teams, drill teams and fans wearing maroon and white you had to search for extra clues to determine whether you were looking at a Wildcat or Eagle program participant or fan. September 6 was my first foray shooting tennis action, at the Allen vs. Plano varsity matches.  With action on eight courts at a time I maxed out my storage card in no time.  Two things I learned:  1) it’s hard to catch the ball in the frame with the players once the volleys get hot ‘n’ heavy; and, 2) each player has his or her very unique way of serving. In week 2 of the 2016 Texas High School football season the Plano Wildcats played the Irving MacArthur Cardinals, and both JV and varsity Wildcat teams put a “win” in the victory column. I didn’t make it to the JV game, but have it on good authority that it was a tight game until the final minutes of the 4th quarter when Plano fought across the goal line twice for the win.
