The Plano Lady Wildcats hosted the first 2026 district softball game against McKinney Boyd on March 10, with concerns about predicted incoming storms. As a hedge against a rain-out the order of play was changed, with varsity teams to play first at 5 p.m. and the JV game after conclusion of the varsity game. The lead of the varsity game see-sawed, and it looked like it was going to go into extra innings until Plano punched out of the tie in the bottom of the 7th for a 7-6 win. The first 2026 district game between the Plano Lady Wildcats and the Prosper Lady Eagles was moved up a day, to March 5, to get ahead of forecast thunderstorms on the 6th. Prosper was the host and the Lady Wildcats did them no favors by jumping out to an early lead and never looking back, coming close to 10-run-ruling the Lady Eagles. The Plano Softball team braved the excruciating traffic between Plano and Princeton on Feb. 27 to play their first 2026 district game against Princeton at the home of the Lady Panthers, who created an awkward fashion moment by wearing almost the same color scheme uniforms as Plano’s “Away” uniforms. Undaunted, the Lady Wildcats swept both JV and varsity games, going home early after the fifth inning of the varsity game 15- zero. The first 2026 district softball games against Allen were also the first district games hosted in Plano’s new field. It was also Future Wildcats Softball night, where dozens of young prospective players were recognized on the field between games and in the stands between innings during the varsity game. The Plano varsity softball team has been participating in the annual Allen Softball Tournament held at the Allen Station softball complex Feb. 19-21, 2026, and I dropped in on the afternoon of the 21st to photograph Plano’s game against Flower Mound at 1 p.m., followed by their scheduled game against Eaton at 3 p.m. After a protracted delay, Flower Mound forfeited, and the Eaton game was moved up to start at 2:15 p.m. Apparently the unplanned 75 minute delay put the Wildcats out of competitive rhythm as neither their bullpen nor bats seemed to warm up. For the 2026 softball season, district play for the Plano Wildcats Softball teams started on Feb. 17 against the McKinney Lions, at McKinney. The teams split wins for the evening, with the Lady Lions taking the JV game and the Lady Wildcats taking the varsity game 18-0. Plano Senior High School Wildcats varsity and JV softball teams held their first games on their brand new softball field on February 10, 2026, with the Richardson Eagles as their opponent. Former Plano Softball Head Coach Cynthia Zea threw out the first pitch to one of her former student catchers, Mel McCullough Boyde, with many Plano Softball alumni, coaches and fans on hand to celebrate. In the bi-district round of the 2025 season football playoffs the Plano Wildcats were matched against the Coppell Cowboys, who had the better season record and therefore hosted the playoff game on Nov. 14. Coppell’s defense stifled the Wildcats, who were held scoreless 38-0 and bowed out of the playoffs in the first round. For the third year in a row the PSA football team Hurricanes, under Head Coach (and former Plano Senior High and Holycross football player) C. J.
