In what appears to be a shortened 2020 district softball season, Plano West hosted Plano softball on March 12 just as PISD announced all further sports activities would be suspended until further notice. Turning uncertainty into motivation, the varsity Lady Wildcats rallied from behind in the mid-innings of their game to take home a 12-6 win. Likewise, the JV Wildcats bats caught fire on the west side as they won 11-1. Rockwall High School hosted varsity softball scrimmages on Feb. 15 that were originally to be played at Plano, but heavy mid-week rains spoiled that plan and Rockwall, with its all-turf field, graciously stepped up. (Thank you, Rockwall!) The Lady Wildcats varsity played Frisco Lebanon Trail and Rockwall high school teams in timed scrimmage games that gave all teams a chance to try out players in different roles and tune-up the fundamentals. The Robinson Razorbacks hosted the Rice Ravens 8th grade boys “B” and “A” basketball teams on Feb. 3 and the Razorbacks earned the win in both games with a comfortable margin. However, in the “A” game, with 6.4 seconds left on the game clock, Ravens #25 stole the ball and made an astounding half-court buzzer-beating throw to shave 3 off the final score spread. Robinson Middle School hosted Bowman for the 2020 8th grade boys basketball games, “B” and “A” teams, on January 8. The freshly renovated and painted Robinson gym must have inspired the Razorbacks because they played lights-out, handily winning both games after taking a commanding lead early in each. The Rice Ravens hosted the 2019 Otto Bobcats 8th grade boys basketball “B” and “A” team games on Monday, Dec. 9, and it was “fill the bleachers” night for Rice. Monday is not usually the weekday for 8th grade boys basketball games, and it turns out Monday is not a lucky night for the Ravens. In both games Rice players dug themselves out of early-game holes, but Otto narrowly swept the evening. To view photos of Rice players and fans from this evening PLEASE CLICK HERE.Read More →

The Rice Middle School Ravens hosted the 2019 8th grade boys “B” and “A” team games against Renner Middle School on December 4. Alas, the Ravens couldn’t earn a “W” in either game, though the Rice “A” team made a dramatic come-from-way-behind rally in the 4th Q to tie, but couldn’t nail down a lead.
