The Allen Station Softball Complex was the venue for a 3-day tournament for local high school varsity softball teams looking to tune-up before 2020 season district play begins later in March. On Leap Day 2020, the Plano Lady Wildcats varsity played the Celina Lady Bobcats for a timed hour and 45 minute scrimmage that showcased great action by both teams, with Plano edging out Celina 5-3. Rockwall High School hosted varsity softball scrimmages on Feb. 15 that were originally to be played at Plano, but heavy mid-week rains spoiled that plan and Rockwall, with its all-turf field, graciously stepped up. (Thank you, Rockwall!) The Lady Wildcats varsity played Frisco Lebanon Trail and Rockwall high school teams in timed scrimmage games that gave all teams a chance to try out players in different roles and tune-up the fundamentals. The Robinson Razorbacks hosted the Rice Ravens 8th grade boys “B” and “A” basketball teams on Feb. 3 and the Razorbacks earned the win in both games with a comfortable margin. However, in the “A” game, with 6.4 seconds left on the game clock, Ravens #25 stole the ball and made an astounding half-court buzzer-beating throw to shave 3 off the final score spread. The Rice Ravens hosted the 2019 Otto Bobcats 8th grade boys basketball “B” and “A” team games on Monday, Dec. 9, and it was “fill the bleachers” night for Rice. Monday is not usually the weekday for 8th grade boys basketball games, and it turns out Monday is not a lucky night for the Ravens. Alas, the Ravens couldn’t earn a “W” in either game, though the Rice “A” team made a dramatic come-from-way-behind rally in the 4th Q to tie, but couldn’t nail down a lead. Plano varsity football’s last game of the 2019 season was on the road, at Prosper’s new (and impressive) stadium. It was a cold November night and the Wildcats offense didn’t warm up until the second half, but by then the Eagles had built up enough of a lead and momentum to finish with a 58-27 home field win.
