Another Friday night football game with rain!  No lightning delays, thankfully, but starting the game with soaked players, wet footballs and a fraction of the usual number of fans in the stands is not a great experience for any team.  But the game started on time, without intervening delays, and the bands and drill teams gave full (AND WONDERFUL) performances. Yes, it was disappointing that the 2018 JV football game between McKinney and Plano was hosted by McKinney at it’s auxiliary field near the high school, and not one of McKinney’s (now two) stadiums, but visitors can’t be choosers.  All the scoring in this game happened in the second quarter, with mirroring TD’s and 2-point conversions that left the game in a 8-8 tie at the closing buzzer. Originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 20, the Wildcats v. Eagles JV football game was rescheduled to Oct. 4 to allow the varsity teams to play on the 20th to avoid rain delays (I guess that kinda worked).  Playing on the newly-carpeted Clark West Field, the JV Wildcats showed solid play, but a turnover and Allen’s relentless passing game gave the Eagles the win. Rice Middle School was the home team at Plano’s John Clark Stadium for its 8th grade football “B” and “A” team games against Armstrong Middle School on Sept. 18, 2018.   Armstrong took the win for the “B” team game, and Rice closed out the night with a decisive “A” team win. Perhaps it was the rousing songs played by the Rice Ravens Band that fueled the Rice “A” team win?  It certainly didn’t hurt. For the third week in a row the Plano Wildcats varsity football team had to kill time during lightning delays at the scheduled start time for their game.  This week, at Allen High School’s Eagles Stadium, the game started with the Eagles kicking to the Wildcats, but before the Wildcats could set for their first offensive play the game was suspended for lightning.  Two hours later, after some sometimes-violent rain showers, play resumed.  Though the teams were neck-and-neck through most of the first half, Allen pulled away just before halftime and never looked back, winning 49-14. Lightning delays for a second week in a row?  Yep!  This time in Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium.  And once again, the game started in a steady rain (which faded out by the end of the first quarter).  Rowlett and Plano eased into scoring, with neither team on the board until the second quarter.  Plano trailed until they tied 17-17 with 3:24 left in the 4th quarter, but Rowlett squeezed in another TD and closed out with a 24-17 win over the Wildcats. Plano JV hosted the 2018 game against Rowlett’s JV football team and the Wildcats got off to a great start with a TD and successful 2-point play to lead 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.  However, turnovers plagued the Wildcats and the Eagles won the game 21-8. The Eastwood Troopers traveled 650 miles from El Paso to play football in Clark Stadium against the Plano Wildcats on Sept. 7 and thanks to lightning delays they almost had a game that spanned two days.  As it was, the lightning ended, but the rain continued on-and-off through the night and the game, creating errors, opportunities, and some very interesting photos.  The game ended with Plano winning with 72, one of the highest scores in school history.  Eastwood lost with 48, a score that was higher than that of most of the teams in the DFW area that won that night.  The hearty fans forRead More →

Once again the Plano Wildcats football teams played the Hebron Hawks for their first game of the season, non-district games for JV and varsity.  For this 2018 season the Hawks swept the series, besting Plano JV 24-0, and varsity 28-27 in an exact reversal of how last season’s varsity match-up ended.
