On May 18 the Plano Wildcats Football program held its annual Spring Scrimmage at Plano Senior High’s practice fields, and parents and fans were invited to watch from the sideline. The Spring Scrimmage is a showcase for players to demonstrate their skills in hope of landing major roles on the Plano Wildcats teams in the fall. The Plano Wildcats football team qualified for the 2022 Texas UIL 6A football playoffs, and for the bi-district round of play drew Prosper, top seed in its district. As top seed at the bi-district level Prosper earned the right to host the game, and on Nov. 11 (a decidedly cold and very windy night) the teams tested each other in the first two quarters, but as the game wore on Prosper’s offense found their way to score and won the match 28-3, ending the football season for the Wildcats. Coppell hosted the Plano Wildcats for the last 2022 regular season game on a Thursday night (changed from Friday due to forecast storms for that day, which came true) and used the home field advantage to the fullest for the win. The silver lining for Plano was learning that the team made the District 6-6A cut for the playoffs. Plano was the host for the 2022 varsity game between the two schools and weather was a major factor this year. First, the game didn’t start until 8:40p due to repeated safety delays due to lightning. Next, it had been raining almost all day before the game, and almost all the way through the game. Fumbles? Check. Slipped tackles? Check. The Flower Mound Jaguars hosted the Plano Wildcats for their 2022 varsity district game and the teams traded touchdowns throughout the game until late in the fourth quarter when a Plano turnover in the red zone gave the Jaguars a chance to break the cycle and take a lead that would hold to the end. Forty years ago the first Plano Senior High vs. Plano East Senior High varsity football game was played, and the Plano Wildcats squeaked past the Plano East Panthers 14-13 for the win.
