Due to forecast prolonged and heavy rain in the area for the night, the Plano at Marcus varsity football game, like many games in the DFW metroplex, had the kickoff time moved up to 5:30pm, and Plano’s band and drill team did not attend for a half-time performance to speed completion of the game. While a cold front blew in for the game, rain did not. The teams and fans went home dry, and Marcus notched a 53-7 win over Plano. It was Senior Recognition Night for the Plano Wildcats as they hosted Flower Mound on Oct. 20 at John Clark Stadium. Plano scored first, but the lead see-sawed through the game, with the Jaguars holding on to a 7 point lead late in the 4th quarter for the win. Friday the 13th proved unlucky for me as well as the Plano Wildcats varsity football team in 2023. Although scoring first with a FG, the Wildcats quickly fell behind in the first quarter when the Farmers intercepted for a quick 6, then converted a two-point attempt to go up 8-3. Lewisville commanded the lead for the rest of the game. For the first time this season for the JV1 teams, and second time for the JV2 teams, the Plano Wildcats played against the Plano West Wolves in John Clark Stadium. The schools split wins, with West winning the JV1 game via a last-minute go-ahead 29-26, and the JV2 game went to Plano 42-14. The Plano Wildcats JV teams were home on Sept. 21 for the 2023 games vs. the Plano East Panthers, so the games were played at the Wildcats Home stadium, John Clark Stadium. Coming off a bye week for all the District 6-6A teams, both the Wildcats and Panthers had an opportunity to rehab the injured and tune up their plays. Bowie hosted Plano’s last 2023 non-district game and what (all hope) will also be the last game played in triple-digit heat. Plano’s defense scored first, but the lead changed hands several times until the game was suspended with 5:43 remaining in the 4th Q due to lightening. Bowie was leading 34-29. Play resumed the next day at 11 a.m., with Plano receiving a kickoff resulting from a safety called against Bowie in the last play the preceding night. On another sweltering, triple-digit September evening the Plano Wildcats JV football teams hosted opponents in John Clark Stadium. The early game was the JV1 game between Plano and Arlington Bowie. Plano had the game well in hand throughout and won 44-0. For the second game of the evening Bowie couldn’t field a JV2 team, so cross-town rival Plano West JV2 stepped up to take on the JV2 Wildcats.
