Plano’s football team traveled to Mesquite on August 25 for the annual pre-season scripted JV and varsity scrimmages against the Skeeters.  The results of Friday night’s play will factor into the final sorting of players between the varsity and JV teams, and the likely first season-game starters for each team.   Jersey changes within Plano teams and between JV & varsity teams are common, so you can’t always assume which player was wearing a certain number unless you received confirmation from a player or coach (or very confident parent). The Plano Wildcats Quarterback Club hosted the annual Media Day breakfast on August 19, and the morning event featured a good turnout, good food, good fellowship, introductions and instructions from the QB Club officers, and a concise and heartfelt speech from Head Coach Jaydon McCullough.  Following the program, the players suited up for their official team and individual photos.  Afterward, I enjoyed taking some casual photos of some coaches and their families, a few photos of parents with their player son, and some improvised posed photos of some players. The Plano Lady Wildcats softball team closed out the 2017 season at their banquet on May 29 at the Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson. Awards and recognition, many laughs and a few tears were on menu for an evening that capped an exceptional season for both JV and varsity teams. The Frisco schools hosted a 7 On 7 football state qualifying tournament on May 20, 2017.  This was the first of three SQTs in which the Plano Wildcats football team is scheduled to compete, and the Wildcats made a great appearance. In pool play, Plano defeated Lake Dallas 31-25 in overtime; defeated Reedy 38-20; and defeated Arlington Lamar 45-33.  In a hard-fought semi-final game with venue host Frisco Wakeland the Wildcats went into the half up 20-13, but an INT in the second half changed the momentum and Wakeland advanced 34-26. May 5 and 6 were the dates for the 2017 Area Round of Texas 6A softball playoffs, with Plano Senior High going up against Waco Midway High, at Midlothian’s Heritage High School field.  It was set up to be a best-of-three series and it took all three games plus three extra innings of that final game for a winner to advance.  And with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the 10th inning, Waco Midway advanced. With forecast thunderstorms looming, the final 2017 regular season Lady Wildcats varsity softball game, at Plano East, was rescheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time, with the JV game to be played afterward.  While the varsity game was able to be completed, the JV game was called off as the stands and field were clearing due to lightning.
