The Plano Lady Wildcats softball JV and varsity teams hosted Frisco Lonestar at Plano West’s field on February 28. The schools split wins, with Plano JV winning their game and Lonestar winning the varsity game. It was also Senior Night for the Wildcats, celebrating their four seniors and their families. Plano varsity softball participated in the annual Allen Softball Tournament held at Allen Station Fields Feb. 20-22, 2025. All games on the 20th were cancelled due to freezing wind chills, but it wasn’t much warmer on the 21st & 22nd. I made it to the last game for the Lady Wildcats on the late afternoon of the 22nd, against Melissa, the “Home Team.” The Lady Wildcats got behind early, and improved batting and fielding late in the game was not enough to turn the tide – Melissa booked the win. With their home field still under construction, the Plano Wildcats softball teams are using the Plano West softball field as their Home field, and that was the location for the first 2025 district games between Plano and McKinney on Feb. 11. Despite the very cold conditions, the Wildcats JV and varsity pitchers were able to maintain control and guide both Wildcats teams to victory that evening. August 12 was the first official day of practice under Texas UIL rules for the Plano Wildcats football team’s varsity and JV players. The morning practice started at 7 a.m. for JV, and for varsity, around 7:30. Everyone enjoyed a cloudy and cooler-than-normal mid-August morning to start the season. The PSA Tackle Football League D3/4 Championship game was played at Plano’s Carpenter Field on November 11 between the Horns United and Hurricanes. The ‘Canes Head Coach is former Plano Senior High and Holy Cross football player CJ Martin. Regulation play ended in a 14-14 tie. The Horns United started OT on offense and scored a TD but failed to score points after. Taking their turn at offense, the ‘Canes scored a TD and then ground out a point after in a scrum across the goal line to win 21-20. Friday the 13th proved unlucky for me as well as the Plano Wildcats varsity football team in 2023. Although scoring first with a FG, the Wildcats quickly fell behind in the first quarter when the Farmers intercepted for a quick 6, then converted a two-point attempt to go up 8-3. Lewisville commanded the lead for the rest of the game. The Plano Wildcats hosted the 2021 varsity football game against Flower Mound on Oct. 29, and the evening started with recognition of football, trainer and cheerleader seniors. At the half the Wildcats had a 15-14 lead, but that advantage slipped away in the third quarter as the Jaguars pulled away to win the game 39-28. A day before their varsity counterparts are to play, the 9th grade feeder school teams to Plano Senior High and Flower Mound High School played at Plano’s Clark Central Field. Despite near record-setting wind gusts from the north, the teams passed and kicked as usual, and through a balanced combination of offensive plays and aggressive defense the Clark H.S. 9th grade Cougars won handily.
