The Wildcats JV and varsity football teams came away empty-handed from their 2017 games against Allen.  The Wildcats 2005 varsity team remains the last PISD football team to defeat Allen (ask Jasper H.S. asst. coach Mark Sfikas, the QB for that 2005 team, about it). Two teams, same mascot name, different team colors, different counties.   The teams split wins this week, their second regular season match-ups in two years.  Guyer dominated the JV game 28-0, and Plano dominated the varsity game 38-36 (although this final varsity score wouldn’t normally draw you to the fact that Plano lead the entire game). Plano’s football team traveled to Mesquite on August 25 for the annual pre-season scripted JV and varsity scrimmages against the Skeeters.  The results of Friday night’s play will factor into the final sorting of players between the varsity and JV teams, and the likely first season-game starters for each team.   Jersey changes within Plano teams and between JV & varsity teams are common, so you can’t always assume which player was wearing a certain number unless you received confirmation from a player or coach (or very confident parent). The Plano Wildcats Quarterback Club hosted the annual Media Day breakfast on August 19, and the morning event featured a good turnout, good food, good fellowship, introductions and instructions from the QB Club officers, and a concise and heartfelt speech from Head Coach Jaydon McCullough.  Following the program, the players suited up for their official team and individual photos.  Afterward, I enjoyed taking some casual photos of some coaches and their families, a few photos of parents with their player son, and some improvised posed photos of some players. November 11, 2016 was a triple witching day for Plano football:  Homecoming, Senior Night, and the biggest rivalry game of the year, the Plano East game.  By the end of the night Homecoming royalty were crowned, seniors and parents mingled on the field after the game, and varsity football bragging rights for a year go to Plano East.  The lead in the game went back and forth until time ran out for the Wildcats with the Panthers holding a one-point advantage.
