Plano’s varsity football team traveled to Mansfield and Vernon Newsom Stadium on Sept. 10 and had to wait as lightning (but no rain) delayed the start of the game. The Tigers jumped to an early lead but the Wildcats narrowed the gap at the half 14-13, trailing by one when a two-point conversion fell short. In the second half each team added TD’s and with 3 seconds left on the game clock the score was tied 28-28 and Mansfield had possession in field goal range. Mansfield’s kick was good as time ran out and the home team booked the 31-28 win.
