The 2019 varsity football game between the El Paso Eastwood Troopers and the Plano Wildcats was held on Sept. 5 at the Star Center in Frisco, a first for both teams. Last year the teams suffered lightning delays and rain in Plano’s Clark Stadium; this year, the game was indoors with climate control. Both years, the Wildcats earned a win. Mesquite hosted this year’s annual Wildcats v. Skeeters football scrimmage at E.H. Hanby Stadium on Thurs., August 22. Earlier in the afternoon Plano’s Clark and Vines high school football teams scrimmaged with Mesquite and themselves, followed by Plano Senior High JV scrimmage with Mesquite, then varsity teams scrimmage. Plano Wildcats football annual Media Day breakfast was held on Aug. 17 on campus, sponsored by the Wildcats Quarterback Club. 2018 marked the first year the Plano Wildcats and the Prosper Eagles would meet on a football field in regular season play.  Plano hosted this year’s varsity game, and the Eagles jumped to an early lead that the Wildcats couldn’t overcome despite their strong play in the 4th quarter.  With the loss, Plano’s 2018 football season ended.  Despite the loss for Plano, the evening was filled with pageantry and emotion as the game was also Plano’s Homecoming game and Senior Night. The McKinney Boyd Broncos hosted the Plano Wildcats this year in McKinney ISD’s brand new football stadium.  The stadium is awesome, and the folks in McKinney have every reason to be proud to have it it for many football seasons to come! This year’s Wildcats vs. Panthers varsity football game started in the rain, and the rain didn’t end until the close of the half-time break.   Those Wildcats fans who stayed home (and a lot of fans for both teams were no-shows) missed the arguably strongest showing of their team this season.  Holding the Panthers scoreless through the first three quarters, and themselves scoring in all four, the Wildcats earned bragging rights by winning 41-19. Another Friday night football game with rain!  No lightning delays, thankfully, but starting the game with soaked players, wet footballs and a fraction of the usual number of fans in the stands is not a great experience for any team.  But the game started on time, without intervening delays, and the bands and drill teams gave full (AND WONDERFUL) performances. For the third week in a row the Plano Wildcats varsity football team had to kill time during lightning delays at the scheduled start time for their game.  This week, at Allen High School’s Eagles Stadium, the game started with the Eagles kicking to the Wildcats, but before the Wildcats could set for their first offensive play the game was suspended for lightning.  Two hours later, after some sometimes-violent rain showers, play resumed.  Though the teams were neck-and-neck through most of the first half, Allen pulled away just before halftime and never looked back, winning 49-14. Lightning delays for a second week in a row?  Yep!  This time in Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium.  And once again, the game started in a steady rain (which faded out by the end of the first quarter).  Rowlett and Plano eased into scoring, with neither team on the board until the second quarter.  Plano trailed until they tied 17-17 with 3:24 left in the 4th quarter, but Rowlett squeezed in another TD and closed out with a 24-17 win over the Wildcats.
