On Aug. 19 Rockwall Heath hosted Plano for pre-season scrimmages of their 9th grade through varsity football teams. For Plano, that meant Vines H.S. 9th, Clark H.S. 9th, Plano JV-1, Plano JV-2, and Plano varsity. Each group had about an hour of play, and the varsity level added two 10-minute timed and officiated periods to the end of the scrimmage. Football Media Day was back for 2021 for the Wildcats, and open to parents and friends of the program. This year team workouts and scrimmages overlapped with Team & Individual photography and HC Ford’s address to parents. In addition, Clark and Vines H.S. 9th grade teams joined the JV teams during their scrimmage and drill time slot, enhancing integration throughout the age groups and schools. The Plano Wildcats Football coaching staff and QB Club hosted the first Plano Football Helmet Striping With Dads event on Aug. 13 on Plano Senior’s campus. After instruction, players and dads (and some moms) collaborated to apply the the 2021 season stickers on fresh helmets a week out from the first inter-school scrimmage of the year. The Plano Wildcats Football coaches and QB Club conducted a Football 101 class for Wildcat Football moms and other interested women the evening of Aug.12 in the athletic facilities on the Plano Senior High campus. Participants enjoyed breakout sessions on offense, defense, and medical trainer protocols, and then toured the weight room and indoor practice field. The Plano Wildcats football program held its first official 2021 season practice the morning of Aug. 9, with JV (in maroon uniforms) taking the field first, followed by varsity about an hour later. The Plano Wildcats football program held its annual Spring Maroon & White scrimmage games at Clark Stadium on May 19. The scrimmages featured prospective players for the JV and varsity teams for the Fall 2021 football season, each showcasing his or her (yes, both genders were on the field) talent and skills in hope of getting a leg up for a position on the roster for their team of choice in the Fall. Due to pandemic scheduling the 2020 annual Plano vs. Plano West varsity football game was played later in the year than usual — on December 4. Knit hats, gloves, thick coats and blankets were the fashion in the stands, but the action was hot on the field. The Wildcats lead the first half, but the Wolves caught up by the 4th Q and with less than 2 min on the clock pulled ahead by a touchdown. This year Flower Mound hosted a rare non-playoff early afternoon varsity football game against the Plano Wildcats the day after Thanksgiving. The daylight made it easier to capture photos of the wealth of action on the field, and despite the final score favoring the Jaguars, the Wildcats provided action to the end.
