The first Plano Wildcats varsity football home game for the 2022 season played out on Sept. 9 against Arlington Bowie. Throughout the evening the teams traded TD’s, staying evenly matched until the last 7 seconds of the game when a wild 60+ yard zig-zagging run by Bowie lead to a game-winning TD and a 34-28 win. Out of respect to a Plano player severely injured during that play, Bowie took a knee instead of kicking for a PAT. The Plano Wildcats traveled West again for the second week of the 2022 season, this time to Keller to play Keller Central on Sept. 2. Keller Central scored first with a field goal, but Plano put nothing but TDs and PATs on the board and after changing lead several times during the night the Wildcats took home a 35-34 victory. On Aug. 25 the Plano Wildcats varsity team traveled 43 miles to Justin, Texas and Northwest ISD Stadium, home field for the Byron Nelson Bobcats. The Thursday night game was the first game of the 2022 season for both teams. The Bobcats scored first and never looked back for a 41-13 win. For the second year Plano Football HC Todd Ford and his coaching staff hosted a Women’s Clinic in Plano’s athletic facilities to introduce his staff, some facilities, and provide some education to participants about the program and how offensive and defensive plays are structured. The participants rotated between offensive, defensive, and health trainer presentation stations, then moved to the indoor training facility for photos in jerseys in the weight room, a group photo, and a run through an obstacle course. Plano Senior High hosted a 2022 season 7 On 7 Football State Qualifying Tournament on May 21, and the hosting school’s team was one of three that qualified for a berth in the Texas State 7 On 7 Championship Tournament in July. The Plano Wildcats won all four games played, but it took three OT periods to win the first game against a very tough Frisco Centennial team.
