Although Plano was the home team for the 2025 game against Odessa Permian, the game was selected to be the 2025 Jerry Jones Whataburger Classic game, and was played in The Ford Center In Frisco, the Dallas Cowboys official training stadium. In 2024 in Odessa, Permian won 13-10, but this year Plano played for revenge and won 27-17, taking home a bejeweled helmet trophy that sported the Cowboys blue star on one side and the Whataburger orange logo on the other. The Plano Wildcats traveled to Denton ISD’s C.H. Collins Stadium on Aug. 21 to participate with Denton Guyer High School in over four hours of pre-season JV and varsity scrimmages. August 11 was the first day Plano Wildcats Football sophomores, juniors and seniors held an official 2025 season practice. Starting in just jerseys and helmets under Texas UIL rules, the team has only 10 days until their tune-up scrimmage against Denton Guyer, and then only 9 days until the first game of the season, a rare Saturday game against Odessa Permian that will be played at The Star In Frisco, the official practice field for the Dallas Cowboys. Over the decades, in one form or another, the Plano Wildcats football team plays its “Maroon & White” football game in May in front of parents and fans eager to get a preview glimpse of next Fall’s varsity and JV team line-ups. The 2025 version played the evening of Friday, May 9, in Clark Stadium, an evening that featured rain and sunshine and rainbows and a lot of young men anxious to prove they should be on the starting rosters in August. For their last 2024 regular season game the Plano Wildcats varsity football team went north to Prosper ISD Children’s Health Stadium to play the Prosper Rock Hill Blue Hawks for the first time ever. Down 17-7 at the half, the Wildcats rallied in the second half to take the lead, but a late TD by the Blue Hawks put them back on top by three, a lead they held at the end for a 24-21 win. The oldest Plano cross-town sports rivalry continued as the Plano Wildcats football team hosted the Plano East Panthers in John Clark Stadium on Oct. 25. Since both teams had defeated Plano West this year, the unofficial City Championship would be the reward of the evening’s winner, and those bragging rights were earned by the Wildcats 34-24. The game was also the last home game for the Wildcats, so football, trainer, cheer and ROTC seniors were honored on the field ahead of the game. The Plano Wildcats varsity football team traveled to McKinney ISD stadium to to play the McKinney Boyd Broncos on Oct. 18. It was was a game of see-saw scoring, tied at halftime 21-all, but Plano capitalized on a muffed punt return in the second half to build a two-TD buffer that withstood a late 4th quarter scoring drive by the Broncos. The Plano Wildcats played from the visitor’s side of John Clark Stadium against the Plano West Wolves in the 2024 rivalry game between the two Plano ISD schools. The Wildcats played spoiler for the Wolves’ homecoming festivities by scoring first and never relinquishing the lead on the way to a 35-14 win.
