The Plano Wildcats football team traveled to Mesquite on Friday, Aug. 22 for both JV and varsity scrimmages with the Skeeters.  With live reffing, the teams alternated 12-play sets through most of the evening, and the varsity scrimmage ended with a timed 12-minute quarter.  Neither team scored during the timed play. The Wildcats JV appeared to have an edge over their opponents, but the varsity Skeeters and Wildcats seemed to be evenly matched.  Of course, both teams were using the scrimmage as an opportunity to test some players and player mixes, so fans can’t read too much into the event.  Regardless, it was fun toRead More →

The Wildcats varsity 7 On 7 football team won all three pool play games on Friday (Port Neches 39-13; Azle 34-32; and Houston Lamar 21-20) and advanced to the Championship round of play on Saturday. In their last state qualifying tournament appearance before going to the 2014 State 7 On 7 Football Championship Tournament in July, the Plano Wildcats varsity 7 On 7 team went 2-1 in Wylie’s SQT on June 13. The first game was against Wylie East and the Wildcats were in good form, winning handily 39-14.  The next game was against Hebron, and it was the wrong team to take lightly as the Hawks came on strong, leading at the half, and at the end with a 39-33 win over the ‘Cats.  Chastened, the Wildcats turned up the intensity and edged out a very scrappy Rowlett teamRead More →

The Plano Wildcats varsity 7 On 7 football team qualified for the State Championship Tournament on Saturday June 7 with wins over Richardson (40-19), Frisco Liberty (32-25), Sachse (21-13) in pool play and Denison (39-26) in the semi-final.  Coincidentally, the host of the SQT, Plano West, defeated Lake Highlands in the other semi-final game, which teed-up Plano and Plano West for the final game. The SQT championship was decided by by an injury-avoiding round of rock-paper-scissors – and the Wildcats won.  Perhaps the teams will actually play each other in the State Championship in College Station on July 11 & 12.
