In their last state qualifying tournament appearance before going to the 2014 State 7 On 7 Football Championship Tournament in July, the Plano Wildcats varsity 7 On 7 team went 2-1 in Wylie’s SQT on June 13. The Plano Wildcats varsity 7 On 7 football team qualified for the State Championship Tournament on Saturday June 7 with wins over Richardson (40-19), Frisco Liberty (32-25), Sachse (21-13) in pool play and Denison (39-26) in the semi-final.  Coincidentally, the host of the SQT, Plano West, defeated Lake Highlands in the other semi-final game, which teed-up Plano and Plano West for the final game. The SQT championship was decided by by an injury-avoiding round of rock-paper-scissors – and the Wildcats won.  Perhaps the teams will actually play each other in the State Championship in College Station on July 11 & 12. The Plano Wildcats 2014 varsity 7 On 7 football team made its first attempt to qualify for the 2014 State Tournament at the State Qualifying Tournament hosted by Mesquite on Saturday, May 31, 2014.  Plano’s first opponent was Mesquite Poteet.  Against Poteet, Plano went to the half up 12-6, and built on that lead to win 33-14.  The second opponent for the Wildcats was Sulphur Springs, and the Wildcats appeared to be in the 7 On 7 groove by going to half up 20-7, finishing with a 45-22 win.  The final pool play game was against Mesquite Horn, who played sharply against a Wildcat teamRead More →

The Plano Wildcats annual spring Maroon & White football scrimmage was held May 15 in John Clark Stadium.  Under the best weather conditions in years, the coaching staff put the players through the paces with the game clock turned off.  The verdict?  I’d say there were too many variables in play to reach any conclusions.  But if you take a look at the action photos you’ll see hints of great performance you may see in the fall. Last year year it was in SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium, and this year it was in Grand Prairie’s Gopher Warrior Bowl.  But both years the Wildcats met the Skyline Raiders in the Bi-District round of Texas 5A football playoffs.  And once again Skyline was a very worthy opponent, once again advancing to the next playoff round. The 2013 regular football season ended Friday night for the Plano Wildcats varsity with a 42-13 loss to the Allen Eagles.  But the Wildcats had already qualified for the playoffs, so their football season extends week-to-week.
