Plano varsity football’s last game of the 2019 season was on the road, at Prosper’s new (and impressive) stadium. It was a cold November night and the Wildcats offense didn’t warm up until the second half, but by then the Eagles had built up enough of a lead and momentum to finish with a 58-27 home field win. The 2019 Plano vs. McKinney Boyd football game was the last home game of the season for Plano, so it was Senior Night. Coincidentally, it was also Plano’s Homecoming game. Clark Stadium was the venue for the 2019 version of the oldest Plano intra-city football rivalry, and the weather couldn’t have been nicer for the event. This game, and the history of the rivalry, is the subject of a documentary I’m producing, and I was on the sideline with my film crew shooting video, and not stills. The 2019 varsity football game between the El Paso Eastwood Troopers and the Plano Wildcats was held on Sept. 5 at the Star Center in Frisco, a first for both teams. Last year the teams suffered lightning delays and rain in Plano’s Clark Stadium; this year, the game was indoors with climate control. Both years, the Wildcats earned a win. The Plano Wildcats Quarterback Club sponsored the annual Media Day Breakfast on Saturday morning, August 18 this year. It started with a tasty light breakfast, followed by introduction of coaches (welcome, new coaches Daniel Maddox and Kirk May!) and some words of wisdom from Head Coach Jaydon McCullough.  It ended with players and parents involved in a flurry of photography for formal team and individual photos, parent group photos, and informal photos of players with family and friends. The Plano Wildcats football team was the sole PISD representative in the 2017 playoffs, and they drew a tough Bi-District round competitor – Euless Trinity.  The Trojans enjoyed a home-field advantage on Nov. 17, and maybe that was a factor that helped them defeat the Wildcats in a grind-it-out 21-21 game that went into overtime. The Plano Wildcats football teams swept the McKinney Boyd Broncos this season.  Both were low-scoring games, and the varsity game tested the ball handling of both teams as the temp dropped into the low 40’s from cold Northerly winds. Two teams, same mascot name, different team colors, different counties.   The teams split wins this week, their second regular season match-ups in two years.  Guyer dominated the JV game 28-0, and Plano dominated the varsity game 38-36 (although this final varsity score wouldn’t normally draw you to the fact that Plano lead the entire game). The Plano Wildcats Quarterback Club hosted the annual Media Day breakfast on August 19, and the morning event featured a good turnout, good food, good fellowship, introductions and instructions from the QB Club officers, and a concise and heartfelt speech from Head Coach Jaydon McCullough.  Following the program, the players suited up for their official team and individual photos.  Afterward, I enjoyed taking some casual photos of some coaches and their families, a few photos of parents with their player son, and some improvised posed photos of some players.
