The second round of 2025 season district softball games between Plano and McKinney Boyd played on April 9 at Plano West’s Field (that is Plano’s Home field this season). The Plano Senior High varsity and JV teams closed out February with tourney play, JV at a home tourney and varsity at the Allen-sponsored tournament. I was able to photograph the JV games against McKinney Boyd (win) and Rock Hill (loss), and the varsity games against LD Bell (win) and Denison (win). Plano hosted the second 2019 varsity district softball game against McKinney Boyd, and this time Boyd fielded a JV team (the first round of games didn’t include a JV game, at Boyd’s request). Wildcats JV easily bested the Broncos JV, but the varsity game was one for the record books yet again. In the first varsity meeting, at Boyd, the game was scoreless for 13 1/2 innings until the ump called for a bathroom break, and when the game resumed for the bottom of the 14th inning Boyd scored to break the 0-0 logjam and win. With McKinney Boyd not fielding a JV team, the first 2019 district game between Plano and Boyd on March 22 would be varsity-only. A short Friday night of softball. Well, not so much. The game turned into a pitching duel with efficient defensive support from the field for both teams. The game went 14 innings with no scoring until the bottom of the 14th, with the sole break in the middle of the 14th inning when the ump game the players time for a bathroom break. Seriously. Last week the Plano Lady Wildcats varsity softball team finished a rain-delay game against Allen on Thursday, then hosted McKinney Boyd’s varsity the next night.  The Lady Wildcats won each game, and with the win against Boyd they clinched the 2018 6-6A District Championship.  There were no JV games played against either team. On March 21 the Plano Lady Wildcats softball teams played the McKinney Boyd Lady Broncos for the first time in 2017 district play and Plano’s JV and varsity teams swept McKinney Boyd with authority.  JV 18-0, and varsity went home early with a ten-run rule 12-1 win.
