The second round of 2024 district softball games between the Plano Wildcats and Plano West Wolves were hosted by the Wildcats on April 2 and the teams split wins. Plano West won the JV game, and Plano won the varsity game 6-5 with stunning come-from-behind play in the bottom of the 7th inning. A deluge of rain the night before overwhelmed home team Plano’s field, and the solution was to cancel the JV game and move the varsity game to Plano West’s field, which is now completely turf. Coppell and Plano battled through the evening in a strong northerly wind that turned a pleasant environment at the beginning into uncomfortably cold and bitter conditions for the last two innings. In the end the Lady Cowboys held Plano at bay for the win as the Lady Wildcats couldn’t bring the base runners home. Rain caused the JV game between Plano and Marcus softball teams to be cancelled, but the first 2024 varsity game between the teams was played at Lady Marauders Field as scheduled on March 22. Plano couldn’t get a runner past 3rd base for the evening and the home team notched a win handily. The Plano Lady Wildcats hosted the first round of 2024 district softball games against the Flower Mound Lady Jaguars on March 19, and the Wildcats were the springtime lambs as the Lady Jaguars handily captured the JV and varsity wins. It was also Future Softball Wildcats Night, and dozens of young ladies took to the field between games and joined the varsity players as they were introduced for the game. To begin the second day of the 2024 Allen Varsity Softball Tournament the Plano Lady Wildcats faced Bells (from the Sherman, TX vicinity) at 9:00 a.m. Bells scored first and built a 6-2 lead until Wildcat senior Rachel Newby sparked a rally that narrowed Bells’ lead, 6-5.
