In the first 2017 district games between the Plano Lady Wildcats and the McKinney Lady Lions, on March 9, the Wildcats swept the Lions.  The JV game was a lopsided Plano 18-0 win.  Plano’s varsity lead their whole game, but the Lady Lions rallied in the later innings to add some suspense until the last out in the bottom of the 7th.  The game ended with a pop-fly to the short stop and a Plano 5-4 win. Starting off 2017 Texas UIL District 6-6A softball play, the Plano Lady Wildcats split wins with the Denton Guyer Wildcats Tuesday evening at Plano.  Plano JV started and finished strong to win their game, but Plano’s varsity team fell victim to an opponent home run late in the game creating a hole they just couldn’t climb out of. It’s hard to describe the two Plano varsity softball scrimmage games on Feb. 4 as “warm-ups” considering temps in the upper 40’s under cloudy skies.  Perhaps tune-up is the better description, and in that case the Lady Wildcats were running on all cylinders, defeating Forney 9-1 and Rowlett 11-0.  The fans saw a lot of fresh faces on the Plano varsity squad, and while there may have been some jitters for a few, all the players appeared to be ready for prime time.  If these scrimmages are a preview of varsity district play, Plano fans have a lot to look forward to this season. The first game in a best-of-three series second round of 2016 UIL Softball playoffs between Plano Senior High and Mansfield was over the evening of May 6 in what seemed to be record time.  Playing at Colleyville Heritage H.S. field, Mansfield scored one run in the top of the 1st inning and that was all it took to win in a defense-heavy game, 1-0. The teams finish the series on Saturday, May 7 back at Colleyville Heritage field starting at 3:00 p.m.  If a third game is necessary, it will start 30 minutes after the end of the 3:00 p.m. game. For their first 2016 district match the Plano Wildcats traveled east to the Lady Panthers Field on Sat. March 12 for games rescheduled from a rain-out earlier in the week.  The Lady Wildcats must have taken advantage of the break because both JV and varsity Wildcats beat the Panthers handily. The first 2016 season district softball games between Plano West and Plano played just before the spring break storms opened up on March 7.  Under threat of thunderstorms, the varsity game played out first, and the teams battled until the bottom of the 10th inning when the Lady Wildcats finally put the game away.  The JV game played afterwards, and was called early due to lighting and rain.
