2019 softball season district play for the Plano Lady Wildcats softball teams began with away games at Allen on a cold Wednesday night, postponed from an even colder evening the day before. Varsity benefited from the change, reversing traditional order of play and playing first, snagging some welcome warming sunshine. Plano won the varsity game, and Allen took the JV game. The last regular 2018 season games for Plano and Plano East softball teams were played at the Lady Wildcats Field on April 20, and the Lady Wildcats swept the Lady Panthers JV and varsity teams. It was also Senior Night for Plano softball, and the five senior players (Lindsay Edwards, Emily Knight, Drew Manders, Bronte Rhoden & Aubrie Rhodes) and senior manager (Terranay Tate) were recognized just before the start of the varsity game. Heading into the second series of District 6-6A games for the 2018 season the Plano Wildcats hosted Denton Guyer (also Wildcats) on March 29 and once again Plano put a check mark in the Win column.  The kickoff of the second half of the season was also Plano Lady Wildcats Softball teacher appreciation night, so the stands were pretty full for a Thursday night game. The Plano Wildcats JV and varsity softball teams went to the east side on March 26 for a rare Monday night match (to avoid a likely Tuesday rain-out) and swept the Lady Panthers, though the varsity game was no cake-walk.  There were more out-of-park HR’s in the varsity game, by both teams, than this photographer has seen in years (or perhaps, ever). The McKinney Lady Lions were the visitors at Plano for their first 2018 District 6-6A season meeting and the Lady Wildcats swept the evening.  Plano JV racked up a 13-0 win in three innings in timed play.  Plano varsity was down 5-0 until the bottom of the 4th when Sr. Lindsay Edwards hit one out of the park to put Plano on the board and light the spark for what would become a bonfire of batting.  The game was over after the top of the 7th — Plano 13, McKinney 5. The Plano Lady Wildcats softball team closed out the 2017 season at their banquet on May 29 at the Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson. Awards and recognition, many laughs and a few tears were on menu for an evening that capped an exceptional season for both JV and varsity teams.
