August 12 was the first official day of practice under Texas UIL rules for the Plano Wildcats football team’s varsity and JV players. The Plano Wildcats football teams played against the Coppell Cowboys for the last games of the 2023 season. Coppell hosted the JV games on Nov. 2, and the Cowboys won the JV2 game and the Wildcats won the JV1 game. Plano hosted the varsity game on Nov. 3 and the Cowboys won, advancing to post-season play. The Plano Wildcats JV1 & JV2 football teams hosted the 2023 games against their Lewisville counterparts on Oct. 12. For the first time this season for the JV1 teams, and second time for the JV2 teams, the Plano Wildcats played against the Plano West Wolves in John Clark Stadium. The schools split wins, with West winning the JV1 game via a last-minute go-ahead 29-26, and the JV2 game went to Plano 42-14. The Plano Wildcats JV teams were home on Sept. 21 for the 2023 games vs. the Plano East Panthers, so the games were played at the Wildcats Home stadium, John Clark Stadium. Coming off a bye week for all the District 6-6A teams, both the Wildcats and Panthers had an opportunity to rehab the injured and tune up their plays. On another sweltering, triple-digit September evening the Plano Wildcats JV football teams hosted opponents in John Clark Stadium. The early game was the JV1 game between Plano and Arlington Bowie. Plano had the game well in hand throughout and won 44-0. For the second game of the evening Bowie couldn’t field a JV2 team, so cross-town rival Plano West JV2 stepped up to take on the JV2 Wildcats. A week before 2023 Texas UIL high school football non-district season play begins, the Plano Wildcats traveled to Rockwall’s Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium to conduct JV2, JV1 & varsity scrimmages against Rockwall Heath. It was the first opportunity for players to tune up against unfamiliar players, and for coaches to evaluate players and plays in often unpredictable circumstances. Plano Football’s annual Media Day was held on the Plano Senior High campus the early morning of August 12. Starting at 7 a.m. Clark and Vines high schools’ 9th grade teams practiced while the JV & varsity teams had their official team & individual photos taken, then at 9 a.m. the JV and varsity players took the field for intra-team practice scrimmages. The Plano Wildcats football program held its first official practice for the 2023 season’s JV and varsity players on August 7 on Plano Senior High’s campus. To avoid the scorching heat of this summer the players and coaches took the field around 7:20 a.m., but the temp was already in the high 80’s. Despite the heat, the practice drills were very up-tempo with a lot of drill rotations. Everyone seemed to be able to keep up the pace – looks like summer conditioning was successful!
