2019 softball season district play for the Plano Lady Wildcats softball teams began with away games at Allen on a cold Wednesday night, postponed from an even colder evening the day before. Varsity benefited from the change, reversing traditional order of play and playing first, snagging some welcome warming sunshine. Plano won the varsity game, and Allen took the JV game. March, 2019 came in to Plano like a Yeti from the North Pole, making the March 1 varsity-only softball game between North Richland Hills and Plano a blankets-and-earmuffs-attire-required game for the hearty fans who attended. Temps in the 30’s chilled the batting so much there were no runs until the bottom of the 9th, when the Lady Wildcats were finally able to put a run on the board and end the game. The Robinson Razorbacks hosted the Rice Ravens for some 8th grade boys basketball action on Jan. 9, and those who were there for the early game were treated to fast-paced action and a dramatic come-from-behind ending for the Razorbacks. Down pretty much throughout the game, and behind by one with 11 seconds left in the game, Robinson’s “B” team made a go-ahead bucket and denied Rice a rebound on their failed shot at redemption 5 seconds before the ending buzzer.
