Football Media Day was back for 2021 for the Wildcats, and open to parents and friends of the program. This year team workouts and scrimmages overlapped with Team & Individual photography and HC Ford’s address to parents. In addition, Clark and Vines H.S. 9th grade teams joined the JV teams during their scrimmage and drill time slot, enhancing integration throughout the age groups and schools. The Plano Wildcats football program held its first official 2021 season practice the morning of Aug. 9, with JV (in maroon uniforms) taking the field first, followed by varsity about an hour later. After warmups, varsity (in white uniforms) conducted about a dozen quick action plays, then combined with the JV squad for combined skill group instruction. The Dallas Open Invitation Regional 2021 soccer tournament was held over the Memorial Day weekend, played at the Five Star Soccer Complex in The Colony. After an abruptly-ended short 2020 season with no formal ending, the 2021 Plano Wildcats Softball season awards event on May 25 was a welcome step back toward a normal season rhythm. While the traditional banquet was still off the plate (pun intended), a simple and sincere in-person gathering of players, parents and coaches was allowed on Plano’s campus. The Plano Wildcats football program held its annual Spring Maroon & White scrimmage games at Clark Stadium on May 19. The scrimmages featured prospective players for the JV and varsity teams for the Fall 2021 football season, each showcasing his or her (yes, both genders were on the field) talent and skills in hope of getting a leg up for a position on the roster for their team of choice in the Fall. The Lady Wildcats hosted the first 2021 district softball games against the Lady Wolves. Plano West won the JV game and Plano won the varsity game, coming from behind in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game, then earning the win in the bottom of the 8th. Due to pandemic scheduling the 2020 annual Plano vs. Plano West varsity football game was played later in the year than usual — on December 4. Knit hats, gloves, thick coats and blankets were the fashion in the stands, but the action was hot on the field. The Wildcats lead the first half, but the Wolves caught up by the 4th Q and with less than 2 min on the clock pulled ahead by a touchdown. This year Flower Mound hosted a rare non-playoff early afternoon varsity football game against the Plano Wildcats the day after Thanksgiving.
