The Plano Wildcats varsity softball team competed in the Allen softball tournament over Feb. 25-27 and I was able to photograph the Wildcats games against Sachse, McKinney Boyd and Denison – all wins for Plano. The harsh weather put an end to some earlier pre-season opportunities to photograph the Plano Lady Wildcats Softball JV & varsity teams, but the sun and warmer air is here! In what appears to be a shortened 2020 district softball season, Plano West hosted Plano softball on March 12 just as PISD announced all further sports activities would be suspended until further notice. Turning uncertainty into motivation, the varsity Lady Wildcats rallied from behind in the mid-innings of their game to take home a 12-6 win. The Allen Station Softball Complex was the venue for a 3-day tournament for local high school varsity softball teams looking to tune-up before 2020 season district play begins later in March. On Leap Day 2020, the Plano Lady Wildcats varsity played the Celina Lady Bobcats for a timed hour and 45 minute scrimmage that showcased great action by both teams, with Plano edging out Celina 5-3. Rockwall High School hosted varsity softball scrimmages on Feb. 15 that were originally to be played at Plano, but heavy mid-week rains spoiled that plan and Rockwall, with its all-turf field, graciously stepped up. (Thank you, Rockwall!) The Lady Wildcats varsity played Frisco Lebanon Trail and Rockwall high school teams in timed scrimmage games that gave all teams a chance to try out players in different roles and tune-up the fundamentals. The Plano Wildcats Softball Booster Club held the 2019 season awards banquet on Memorial Day and it was a nice conclusion to a fun season and post-season of play.
