The Plano Lady Wildcats Softball JV & varsity teams kicked off their 2022 district season play on March 8 against the Coppell Cowgirls at Coppell. It was a cold late afternoon for JV play (Coppell earned the JV win) that evolved into a colder night by the time the varsity teams ended with Coppell winning in the bottom of the 9th inning, 7-6. After an abruptly-ended short 2020 season with no formal ending, the 2021 Plano Wildcats Softball season awards event on May 25 was a welcome step back toward a normal season rhythm. While the traditional banquet was still off the plate (pun intended), a simple and sincere in-person gathering of players, parents and coaches was allowed on Plano’s campus. District 6-6A 4th seed Plano faced District 5-6A 1st Allen for the 2021 Bi-district softball playoff round. Weather issues caused the first two games to be played on Allen’s all-turf field in the best-of-three series, allowing the talented Lady Eagles to avoid travel and capture the title game at home. Best wishes to the Lady Eagles through the playoffs. With the 2021 Texas District 6-6A softball play ending in a two-way tie for 3rd place between Plano and Hebron, a seeding playoff game was played at Plano West’s field on April 22. The Hebron Lady Hawks won 3-1 and advance to the bi-district playoffs seeded 3rd. The Plano Lady Wildcats advance to bi-district playoffs seeded in 4th place. The Lady Wolves hosted the second round of 2021 district softball games against the Lady Wildcats on a cool but clear mid-April evening. The teams split wins, with Plano West winning the JV game and Plano winning the varsity game. The Lady Wildcats advance to playoffs. Plano hosted the second round of 2021 district softball games against Flower Mound on April 13 and the visitors swept the series. These were the last 2021 regular season home games for the Wildcats, and after the conclusion of the JV game parents of the seniors quietly came onto the field for a few minutes of catch with their daughters for the last time at Plano Senior High. The 2nd round of 2021 district softball games between Plano and Lewisville suffered some scheduling changes during testing week that resulted in a varsity-only game on a Thursday night, Apr. 8.
