Lewisville hosted the second round of 2023 district play against the Plano Lady Wildcats on April 11, and it was varsity-only because Lewisville wasn’t able to field a JV team this week. That’s OK, because there were two games worth of action rolled into the one varsity game. In the early innings the Lady Farmers took the lead and established a modest cushion of runs. The first 2023 season match between the Plano and Hebron softball teams was at Hebron’s Lady Hawks Field in March. Plano won the JV game, and the varsity game went to extra innings until Plano won that game. The second round of games between the teams was at Plano Lady Wildcats Field on April 6, and again Plano won the JV game. However, the varsity game was Hebron’s from the start. The Plano East Lady Panthers hosted the second round of 2023 games against the Plano Lady Wildcats on a particularly windy last day of March. The Plano Lady Wildcats hosted the first round of 2023 district games against Lewisville on St. Patrick’s Day, and as a bonus for Wildcats fans it was also Senior Night. Plano swept both JV and varsity games, though the bats of the Lady Fighting Farmers suddenly came alive in the last two innings to give the Wildcats a scare. The Plano Wildcats softball teams travelled to Lady Hawks Field at Hebron High School for the first 2023 district match between their respective JV and varsity teams. The JV game went to Plano in a quick set of 5-run limit innings, but the varsity game tested the stamina of both teams, going to the bottom of the 9th before a winner emerged – Plano 5-3. The Plano Lady Wildcats hosted the first district softball games of the 2023 season against the Plano East Lady Panthers, and the Wildcats won both JV and varsity games. The evening was dedicated to Carrie Vega, mother of Plano varsity sophomore player Bella Vega. Carrie lost her fight with cancer in September, and the Lady Panthers joined the Lady Wildcats on the field as a memorial to Carrie was unveiled on the center field fence. On May 12 the Plano Lady Wildcats Softball Booster Club produced a wonderful end-of-season banquet at Maggiano’s for players, parents, coaches & supporters.
