The second 2025 season games between Plano and Allen, this time hosted by Plano at Plano West’s field, was thrown for a loop on March 25 after the end of the 1st inning of varsity play due to lightning in the vicinity. The second round of 2025 district games between Plano and McKinney were hosted by McKinney on Saturday, March 22. There was no home field advantage for the McKinney Lions, as the JV Wildcats won their game 12-0, and varsity Wildcats won 9-7. Rock Hill hosted the first round of 2025 district softball games with Plano and the teams split wins, with Plano JV winning that game and Rock Hill winning the varsity game 10-9. Because the Plano Wildcats softball team’s field is under renovation, the Wildcats hosted the first 2025 district games against Plano East at Plano West’s softball field on March 14. In a season plagued by odd and extreme weather, this evening was no exception as the teams suffered through high winds and extremely dusty conditions as West Texas dirt blew in throughout the afternoon and evening, casting a brown haze under the lights. Although the Plano Wildcats softball teams have been using the Plano West field as its home field this season while their field is under renovation, on March 4 the Wildcats moved over to the Visitors dugout as the Plano West Wolves hosted the first 2025 district games with Plano. For the past several years the Plano v Plano West softball games have been very competitive, where the outcome is contested right down to the last inning (or extra inning). Plano varsity softball participated in the annual Allen Softball Tournament held at Allen Station Fields Feb. 20-22, 2025. All games on the 20th were cancelled due to freezing wind chills, but it wasn’t much warmer on the 21st & 22nd. I made it to the last game for the Lady Wildcats on the late afternoon of the 22nd, against Melissa, the “Home Team.” The Lady Wildcats got behind early, and improved batting and fielding late in the game was not enough to turn the tide – Melissa booked the win.
