August 1 is the first day of UIL authorized Fall football practice for the 2022 season in Texas, and the Plano Wildcats feeder schools Clark and Vines 9th grade teams hit the fields on their respective campuses at 7:00 a.m. to mitigate the heat for practice. A day before their varsity counterparts are to play, the 9th grade feeder school teams to Plano Senior High and Flower Mound High School played at Plano’s Clark Central Field. Despite near record-setting wind gusts from the north, the teams passed and kicked as usual, and through a balanced combination of offensive plays and aggressive defense the Clark H.S. 9th grade Cougars won handily. The first week of 2021 season play for Vines H.S. and Clark H.S. 9th Grade football teams were against Byron Nelson teams at Plano’s Clark Field East. On Aug. 19 Rockwall Heath hosted Plano for pre-season scrimmages of their 9th grade through varsity football teams. For Plano, that meant Vines H.S. 9th, Clark H.S. 9th, Plano JV-1, Plano JV-2, and Plano varsity. Each group had about an hour of play, and the varsity level added two 10-minute timed and officiated periods to the end of the scrimmage. The Plano Vines and Clark high schools 9th grade football teams squared off the afternoon of Nov. 25, 2020 at Clark East Field for a rare game in daylight. The Vines defense earned several interceptions, but Clark’s offense was steady and strong, earning the Cougars the win. Plano’s historic Williams Field was the venue for the 2020 9th grade football game between Plano cross-town rivals Clark and Williams high schools. Each school wore the colors of the varsity team they feed into (Plano, for Clark; Plano East, for Williams). Clark scored first and never looked back on the way to a 49-22 win. Mesquite hosted this year’s annual Wildcats v. Skeeters football scrimmage at E.H. Hanby Stadium on Thurs., August 22. On Oct. 20 the Clark High School 10th grade football team was the visitor and Jasper High School the home team in John Clark Stadium for another feeder school rivalry, this time central corridor vs. west side.  Each team wore their traditional school uniforms, and Clark 10th graders demonstrated they can win regardless of uniform.  Final — Clark 50, Jasper 24.
