The Lady Wildcats and Lady Wolves split the night’s games on March 24, with Plano West JV pulling out from behind in the bottom of the last inning to win. On March 21 the Plano Lady Wildcats softball teams played the McKinney Boyd Lady Broncos for the first time in 2017 district play and Plano’s JV and varsity teams swept McKinney Boyd with authority. In the first 2017 district games between the Plano Lady Wildcats and the McKinney Lady Lions, on March 9, the Wildcats swept the Lions. The JV game was a lopsided Plano 18-0 win. Plano’s varsity lead their whole game, but the Lady Lions rallied in the later innings to add some suspense until the last out in the bottom of the 7th. Starting off 2017 Texas UIL District 6-6A softball play, the Plano Lady Wildcats split wins with the Denton Guyer Wildcats Tuesday evening at Plano. Plano JV started and finished strong to win their game, but Plano’s varsity team fell victim to an opponent home run late in the game creating a hole they just couldn’t climb out of. It’s hard to describe the two Plano varsity softball scrimmage games on Feb. 4 as “warm-ups” considering temps in the upper 40’s under cloudy skies. Perhaps tune-up is the better description, and in that case the Lady Wildcats were running on all cylinders, defeating Forney 9-1 and Rowlett 11-0. The fans saw a lot of fresh faces on the Plano varsity squad, and while there may have been some jitters for a few, all the players appeared to be ready for prime time. November 11, 2016 was a triple witching day for Plano football: Homecoming, Senior Night, and the biggest rivalry game of the year, the Plano East game. By the end of the night Homecoming royalty were crowned, seniors and parents mingled on the field after the game, and varsity football bragging rights for a year go to Plano East. The 2016 meeting between the JV Wildcats and JV Wolves football teams ended with a nail-biting finish. Coming from behind, the JV Wildcats scored a touchdown that put them one point away from a tie game with only a few seconds left on the clock. A PAT would have finished the game with a tie. A two-point play would give the Wildcats a win. No guts, no glory, the Wildcats went for two with a run up the middle. The Wolves defensive line held, and they won 27-26.
