The Plano Wildcats hosted the 2021 JV football games against the Lake Highlands Wildcats on Sept. 9 at Plano’s Clark Stadium, and the schools split wins. In the JV-1 game, Lake Highlands came from behind in the second half to win 20-18, but in the JV-2 game Plano took an early lead and won decisively, 45-12. Our across-the-street neighbor, Kaitlyn, is a Jr. at Plano West Senior High and plays on the varsity volleyball team. I took my cameras to West on Sept. 7 to photograph Kaitlyn and her West Wolves varsity teammates in what turned out to be a very competitive 5-set game against the visiting Southlake Carroll Dragons. Plano and Rowlett varsity teams were able to play this year (after a 2020 cancellation) with Plano as the host. Plano jumped into the lead early and never looked back. The second week opponent of the 2021 football season for Plano Football, Rowlett, was not able to field a team to play Plano’s JV-2, so Plano West stepped up and was the opponent for a Wednesday night game at Clark Stadium on Sept. 1. The first week of 2021 season play for Vines H.S. and Clark H.S. 9th Grade football teams were against Byron Nelson teams at Plano’s Clark Field East. On Aug. 19 Rockwall Heath hosted Plano for pre-season scrimmages of their 9th grade through varsity football teams. For Plano, that meant Vines H.S. 9th, Clark H.S. 9th, Plano JV-1, Plano JV-2, and Plano varsity. Each group had about an hour of play, and the varsity level added two 10-minute timed and officiated periods to the end of the scrimmage. Football Media Day was back for 2021 for the Wildcats, and open to parents and friends of the program. This year team workouts and scrimmages overlapped with Team & Individual photography and HC Ford’s address to parents. In addition, Clark and Vines H.S. 9th grade teams joined the JV teams during their scrimmage and drill time slot, enhancing integration throughout the age groups and schools. The Plano Wildcats Football coaching staff and QB Club hosted the first Plano Football Helmet Striping With Dads event on Aug. 13 on Plano Senior’s campus. After instruction, players and dads (and some moms) collaborated to apply the the 2021 season stickers on fresh helmets a week out from the first inter-school scrimmage of the year. The Plano Wildcats Football coaches and QB Club conducted a Football 101 class for Wildcat Football moms and other interested women the evening of Aug.12 in the athletic facilities on the Plano Senior High campus.
