On another sweltering, triple-digit September evening the Plano Wildcats JV football teams hosted opponents in John Clark Stadium. The early game was the JV1 game between Plano and Arlington Bowie. Plano had the game well in hand throughout and won 44-0. For the second game of the evening Bowie couldn’t field a JV2 team, so cross-town rival Plano West JV2 stepped up to take on the JV2 Wildcats. The Plano Wildcats varsity team hosted their second game of the 2023 season on the last day of August in John Clark Stadium, against Keller Central. Keller Central’s 9th grade football teams traveled to Plano’s John Clark Stadium on August 30 to take on Clark High School’s and Vines High School’s 9th grade football teams. Clark had the early game and dominated, 48-8. The Vines game followed, and Keller Central fared better this time, winning 24-7. A week before 2023 Texas UIL high school football non-district season play begins, the Plano Wildcats traveled to Rockwall’s Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium to conduct JV2, JV1 & varsity scrimmages against Rockwall Heath. It was the first opportunity for players to tune up against unfamiliar players, and for coaches to evaluate players and plays in often unpredictable circumstances. For a third year the Plano Football program hosted a special event for a dad or family member to take part in putting the identifying stickers on their player’s helmet. This season, Plano Wildcat helmets will feature a special maroon sticker with the initials “JC” in memory of former Plano Football Head Coach and PISD Athletic Director John Clark. After affixing the various stickers on their helmets, the players and parents were treated to Little Rome pizza courtesy of the Wildcats Football Booster Club. Plano Football’s annual Media Day was held on the Plano Senior High campus the early morning of August 12. Starting at 7 a.m. Clark and Vines high schools’ 9th grade teams practiced while the JV & varsity teams had their official team & individual photos taken, then at 9 a.m. the JV and varsity players took the field for intra-team practice scrimmages. The Plano Wildcats football program held its first official practice for the 2023 season’s JV and varsity players on August 7 on Plano Senior High’s campus. To avoid the scorching heat of this summer the players and coaches took the field around 7:20 a.m., but the temp was already in the high 80’s. Despite the heat, the practice drills were very up-tempo with a lot of drill rotations. Everyone seemed to be able to keep up the pace – looks like summer conditioning was successful! On May 18 the Plano Wildcats Football program held its annual Spring Scrimmage at Plano Senior High’s practice fields, and parents and fans were invited to watch from the sideline. The Spring Scrimmage is a showcase for players to demonstrate their skills in hope of landing major roles on the Plano Wildcats teams in the fall.
